Vanguard Logistics Opens Location in Rio Grande, Brazil - Regional presence enhanced with new operations office

Los Angeles (September 16, 2010) - Vanguard Logistics Services (VLS) has announced the opening of a sixth office in Brazil with the addition of a new operations office in the port city of Rio Grande, located in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The new office replaces the current agency arrangement which operates as a sales office in Porto Alegre. "We have been expanding our commercial activities in Porto Alegre and volumes have grown to the point where it now makes sense to upgrade our operations in that area," commented Hal Donahue, Regional Managing Director – Latin America. The new branch is a fully fledged operational office with all commercial activity conducted in the Porto Alegre location.

This is an important step in expanding our presence in the south of Brazil. Vanguard currently has a direct weekly service from Miami and a bi-monthly service from Antwerp. By expanding our sales presence in Porto Alegre, we are now able to develop a weekly service from Antwerp and to develop new services from Hong Kong, New York and Barcelona," explained Charles Brennan, CEO. Freight from these origins is currently trucked from Santos to Porto Alegre, but importers in the region prefer direct services to Rio Grande.

Rio Grande do Sul is located in the extreme south of Brazil and borders Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina. The port of Rio Grande is the principal entry port for freight destined for Porto Alegre, the capital city of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Porto Alegre has a population of 1.5 million and the greater metropolitan area has a total population of 4 million. It is the second most important city in Brazil in terms of industrial and agricultural production, making this an ideal market focus for Vanguard's strategic global expansion strategy.
